Trim Pump: Dead?

My trim pump was working fine. I have the old style with the reverse lockout valve. The other day, as I was coming into the river, I could not trim up my drive. I banged on the solenoid, and kept pressing the button. My exhaust is REALLY REALLY loud, so I could not hear it working. I got halfway into the river, checked the fluid, and it was gone! I didn't realize it was dry! I added some fluid, and it "kind of" pulled the drive up, but then stopped. Also, the motor sounds godawful now. instead of a high pitched "whir", it sounds lower pitched and uneven. What could be wrong?

Need a new pump, You can buy a new one cheaper than trying to fix yours.

The inside was filled with tan goo/oil water mixture. Cleaned it out, motor sounds pretty good! Going to reassemble tonight and see if it works!
