Submerged Fountain Outdrives....issues?
 

My 2000 Fountain with twin 502's with Mercury outdrives was unfortunatly submerged to about the middle of the engines. I saved it in time to get the water out of the bilge at that stage. The engines both started and seem to run fine. Question .....I am told that the outdrives should be serviced. Is this true?, and what else am I maybee missing!!! .......It sure seems to me that those outdrives are way underwater anyways with the way that boat sits in the water!!!!

The should be serviced because water could have gotten into the bellows past the gimble bearing. At the very least pull the drives and check / grease the bearing.

Water should not get into the drives, they are pretty much watertight unless you get the drive oil resevoir under water.

when it sank was the water sandy? if so pull the engines and freshin them b4 you do more damage to them..

Salt water? Fresh water? Water in the engines? Drive reservoirs submerged? And let me understand, your trying to cheap out on servicing the drives because? +1 on tearing the engines down if the water got in and was sandy/muddy.

He said it was submerged to the middle of the engines so I doubt water got in the motor, I would pull the drives and check the gimble bearings and grease them if there ok and not the newer non serviceable ones should be ok after that good luck
