Time for Arneson upgrades?
 

Anyone looking to upgrade from Bravos to Arnesons there is a set of ASD 7:coolcowboy: conversion kits just listed.

Make it bulletproof on the drive end of things... :) But also make it a little dicey for swimming off the back of the boat. From what I understand because of the lack of parasitic power loss compared to a conventional drive, a lot of guys see about 7-10mph with the conversion too. Props are pricey though! 10K for a set of Herings if you decide to go the cleaver route. There was a thread on here about a guy who did the conversion to his 38' Formula... If I remember it went pretty well.

I certainly would not want to see my little guy cannonball onto those props!

It's not so much about parasitic loss. The Arneson has a tranny, versus the build in gears in a bravo. In a #6, well that's another story. There you have a tranny that goes to input shaft, into two vertical shafts with gears, into propshaft that is driven by the two shafts and sets of gears + plus the oil pump, that circulates the oil in the dry sump lower case. Many moving parts and more weight in a #6 compared to an ASD. Arnies and Bravos are more about less drag and efficiency. I know, a little of the same thing. It simply boils down to the fact that, surfacing props and no torpedos under the water, is much more efficient. Also, surfacing cleavers bite harder and has less drag too, than the bravo style props.

Very well stated. In my application, speed & effiency wasn't a factor. If I had bigger power these wouldn't be forsale.

I'm seeing alot of broken bravo drive discussions in this forum. I have the answere for sale. Winter is on the way & time to stop crying about broken drives & do something about it. You will not beet the price. Check out the classifieds.:coolcowboy:
