hello all. i'm wondering if you can replace a 1985 volvo 280b with a 1977 volvo 280t.

does anyone know if they are interchangeable as far as fitment goes?

thanks, rob.

yes you can as long as you use the drive mounting hardware of the existing drive..280 ''B'' the b means its a 1.61 gear ratio, the 280 ''T'' the t means that its a trimable drive with a hydraulic trim pump and requires a special transom shield for the drive to fit on your boat correctly..you will still need to find out the gear ratio because the t could still be a a,b,c,d gear ratio.on volvo the letter a is a 1.3? ratio,b is a 1.61,c is a 1.89 ratio and d is a 2.15 ratio..

I took the mid gear section out of a early 70's 270 and swapped it into a mid 80's 280Tdrive . . . . they didnt change to much over the years. Actually a heck of a durable and simple drive. Are you swapping to get a trimable drive or are you replacing a broken drive? You have to swap the transom assembly to get the trim. Another good swap is a DP lower.

Hey Fixall i didnt know you were a Volvo expert :D
