Considering Bravo to Volvo Duo-prop
Has anybody done this before? It the position of the engine the same for both, or does it take moving the engine? I have a little wiggle room, but with headers and through the hull exhause it would need to be close.
I am thinking that if I sell my current Bravo setup (complete outdrive/transom assembly/ Marine Machine Hydraulic steering) that I could come close to funding it. All along I was not going to consider this until I drove a buddys similar boat with the DPX and I like the way it handled. Thanks. |
Why not just switch to bravo 3?

Wonder what a BlackHawk would do on one of those ?

Is a bravo 3 a direct bolt up to my existing transom assembly?

Yes. I believe so.

You don't even have to change the whole drive, you can just swap the lower. If you don't like it, swap back. Maybe someone has one you can try.
And there are more prop choices for the B3 |

And there are more prop choices for the B3 The Merc stuff says a max of 400 hp and a top speed of 65. I would like the capability of 450 hp (smallblock) and 80 mph. At least the boat is very light so it should be fairly easy on things. |
Yes, but I am sure the volvo has the same inherent limits. The 450HP should not be a problem with a small block.
The only problem you will have is finding the ratio you need. You will most likely run out of prop (30 is max that is made) with the standard gas ratios of 1.81 to 2.2. They are available all the way down to 1.36, but you will not have to go that far. What ratio is your Bravo 1? How many RPM do you want to turn? You can play around here: http://go-fast.com/Prop_Slip_Calculator.htm |
