Another, What Drive Question

97 Scarab SCS, 502 MPI MAG
The drive has a 1 1/4" prop shaft.
Was this an option that was available on a standard bravo 1? If not, what lower unit came with a 1.25 prop shaft in 97?

It was not an option. The drive that came with the 1.25" was the XZ and the XR. Someone have at some poing either rebuild the lower iwth an 1.25" shaft or bolted on an XR lower.

Is there a directory that I can run my vin against to see what model my upper is?

If you can see the serial number on the port side of the upper, you can fx call merc and ask them.
