Recommendations for 27ft Magnum drives?
 
I am in the process of restoring a 1971 27ft Magnum sport, I have twin SBC's dynoed at 550hp. I removed the old volvo 270's and replaced the transom so I have a clean slate to start with. My initial thought was to run Bravo XRs, perhaps some of you with more experience can steer me in the right direction. Any reputable shops I should look to to purchase them? Thanks!

PM, we have 2 complete bravo set up's , trs speed master set up , don't think you have the room to run the arneson,

Even though i'm a huge ASD fan, spending 60 k on drives for that boat is a lot imo. If Hotrod 62 can swing it, by all means, they are tha right drives and will be way faster than the XR, not to mention a hel! of a lot stronger. A set of XRs with full hydralulic steering will be about 30k. The ASD does include steering and all. They can also be set up for running Bravo style props, so prop cost does not have to be the big factor, when choosing drives. Talk to Rik about this..
If going with XRs, which for the record I think is junk, install them with an x-dim of about 17" and utilize the modern prop technology. Besides, you can always space down if needed when dialing in.

In terms of space, my understanding is, that the ASD#7M needs 3"-4" more room in front of the motor than a regular B1 setup.

Ok, post edited. Not disagreeing in any way, you're the expert by far. I know KJM5125 who did the #7M conversion on hes Formula last year, had to move hes engines about 3 inches forward. What does this depend on, are there different versions of the #7M? I've noticed in other threads it has been a bit of a concern for some.
