grease fittings u joints scx's
Pulled drives today, just realized no grease fittings or plugs on u joints.Anyone know how many hrs before replacing U joints, came from Imco like this ?

Also checked my old drives, xr's ITS's same thing, boat new to me 07, thought all the U joints had fittings.

Newer input shafts from Merc all have the greaseless fittings. Imco uses the Merc ujoints. I have yet to see one damaged. The caps can be removed and grease added, but they dont press all the way out, you need to grip them with something and twist the cap out the remainder of the way to get it off. It would be good to hear of someone that has had a problem at some time period to know what you are asking. I dont have a number for that..

Thanks Dick for reply, the grease fitting would be the weak point, come to remember that the high performance u joint's doen't have them.
If your going to pull out to grease, might as well change them I would think? Joe |
Depends, on the old XR large joints, you could see dents and wear on the cross bearing surface. If that looks intact on the new ones, I would reuse them with fresh grease. But I have not disassemble many at all, so I have no feel for there wear capabilites. They dont give them away, so if they look good, I would feel good about reuse.
