OutDrive ID / Ratio / Interchange

Hi, I am having difficulty determining the ratio of my alpha one gen 2 drive. Only ID on the currently installed outdrive is 0D533256. ( this drive was changed at some point and the original ID according to the Air-Cleaner cover was 0D876777 / Engine 0f064251) Could anyone tell me what the ratio is ( and if it is a correct match to the engine ) and if the new unit is the same as the original ?) The drive is in very rough condition, and I would like to replace it. Another question : Do I have to match the upper unit ratio, and then I could use my existing lower? ( are the alpha one Gen 2 lower units all the same ratio - 2.00 ? ) Thanks in advance!:cartman:

You be best off just to get one of these drives. About $1500 complete and has a 3 year no fault warranty. What engine do you have?

Hi, Engine is a 5.0L Merc. Any idea as to what the correct ratio should be for this application? Trying to determine if the 0D533256 I have now is correct? I have a guy with a alpha one Gen 2 , but its from a 4.3L... Thank for the response!

The 5.0 used a 1.47:1 drive and the 4.3 used 1.84:1 in older models and a 1.62:1 in the newer models. Not that much difference between a 5.0 and a 4.3 as far as horsepower. You could use that on a 5.0 but MAY have to go to a prop with a little more pitch. Max recommended rpm for a 5.0 is 4800. If it spins more than that at wide open than you will need more pitch. One additional inch of pitch slows the engine approximately 200 rpm's.

Thanks for the prompt response! I did find an "F" stamped on the Yoke, so I believe it is a 1.50:1 ( haven't checked the upper gears yet, to verify if it has been changed ) Much appreciated!
