Alpha One Water Pump
 

How hard is it to change the water pump in my 94 Alpha One counter rotate. It is on a 29foot Scarab. Thanks.

"Hard" depends on your mechanical aptitude. As far as wrenching on a boat goes, this one isn't bad.

It was suprisingly simple! Spent the day on the water today!
Going to change the other one this week.

Just wondering what shape it was in as that's a floppy vane pump that seems to last forever as long as it's not run dry. -I've changed out a bunch of them but never seen one really bad.

Actually it seemed to be in good shape, I am going to change the other one this week.

My impellers last for 2 seasons.

2 Seasons and 1 day, they usually are missing pieces. :)

I fully agree with Bravo style crank driven pumps but the Gen II Alpha impeller is a floppy vane impeller that seems to last forever (as long as it's not run dry)

Anyone know what the Merc change interval on this component?

Did not know that. My B1 only gets 2 seasons. My cruiser has Gen II's that I installed new 2 yrs ago. Was thinking time to replace them. Have a buddy that also has Gen II's that had over 5 yrs on his before impellers replaced.

Guess I'm not following the difference in impellers. They both look the same to me, other than the Bravo impeller looks to be compressed more, never really looked at the Gen II's. Do they not get compressed as much on the tight end?

It look to be compressed quite a bit, suprised it quit pumping water.

depending on how you read the book its 2-5 years or 100 hrs.from what i see at replacement its taken a curl do to lack of use,just another reason to call in sick and use your boat more......

The vanes were swept back on the old one. Recently bought the boat so I dont know when it was replaced last.

Probably should write it down! I`m going to change the coils tomorrow, one is acting stupid.

Did you pull the drive or just split the lower from the upper, have seen it done both ways. just wondering.
