bravo 3 Help!

I called mercury marine , could not answer my question. I have a 2001 mercruiser 7.4 300 hp and an unknown year bravo 3 drive with 220 gear ratio right hand drive. Will this drive ratio be suitable for my boat and engine combination?

Yes try with a 24p prop set, I had the same package in a 23, but had 28's could barely turn 4100 rpm

That's a really low "stump pullin" gear ratio designed for a big heavy boat. Sure it will work but you won't have as much top end and will need to be carefull that you don't over rev the engine. Increasing prop pitch will help. That's something more for like a big house boat.

thanks! will I be better selling this drive and finding something with a better gear ratio for my application or just work with different pitch props?

I'm running 300hp 7.4s with a BIII 2.0 ratio and 28 pitch props in my 25'7" deep v powerquest. I run 4500 at WOT. The 2.2 might hurt you some, but with the right prop it should work.

That said, props for the BIII are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$, so it might be cheaper to sell it and get a BI for your boat.
