Template to cut hole in gimbal housing....
 

Anybody have a template or drawing to cut the gimbal housing, to allow access to the swivel pin to remove the gimbal ring? Similar to the JR marine mod, etc.

Want to remove my ring today and bring to the welder tomorrow. Thanks! J

google mercruiser steering pin replacement. there is an iboats.com thing second from the top. in that-post 15 has jrmarine link. pic is a little small. a couple below that a guy has a facebook link where he did job. lots of pics. you might be able to duplicate template from that first or second pic. good luck. how come our boats never break in the winter when we aren't using them and have time to fix 'em?

Did my own without a template , kind of estimated off of the jr pics , taped it up real good made 4 equal punch marks , cut , made some stainless covers , predrilled those , made 4 new punch marks , drilled tapped them worked out great , like everything else you spend more time thinking about it than it does doing it .
