What did he do and what was the turn around time?

You are welcome!! :)
and Thank You! |
Boy, that's not much break-in time. I've got 4.5 hours on my new drive and have not gone over 3.800 rpm's.
Dick, how many hours do you go on new gears and bearings before you get into it? I'm going out tomorrow and was going open it up some. It has new cryo gears in the lower and the lower was a complete rebuild. Bmax drive. Your thoughts? Thanks |

Wish I had the day off. Boy a 120 at 3/4 throttle, that's real good, must be running some big power.
I got a blower and lots of torque so it was a drive killer on a 29 foot single engine boat. Now I went with a Bmax. If anyone can put a good drive together it is Mr. Gagets!!! What break-in oil did you put in? I'm going to change mine after this weekend and go with the Bravo Shop Neo oil. |
I like to see a few hours before you start to work your way up to WOT.. The drive will loosen up once the bearings are run in. The gears, if they have not been polished, will give off metal for about 25hrs. Taking it easy on them helps with a bit of work hardening, I believe. I personally have a new SCX and have about 7hr on it, only made it to 75% throttle for about 6-10 seconds and my son saw 78mph on the speedo. That was approaching 5k rpm, but we were only there for a short time. I like to vary the rpm, and not hold myself to any limit. Just dont go up there and hold it for too long.
I hope to be on the water tomorrow to put more time on it. I will be tuning EFI and wont be seeing much heavy throttle for a while. Just like I want to break that new drive in. When I get a few more hours the new "Big" prop will go on and some more tuning and then I will work my way up upper end. By then I expect to have 20hrs on it. Some short easy blasts up to speed, once the hull is light, is ok to break it in. I like to think of the drive as very flexible, the easier you are on it.. the better all those parts match up. Little hot, little cool, little power, more power.. etc. Hope that helps. Dick |
