1.35 gear ratio versus 1.5

I have a 1.5 gear ratio steerndrive with a 30 pitch prop now and will be going to a 1.35 gear ratio drive, what prop would I use.

depends on what rpm your turning now,,in theory you should run a 28 p with that ratio..

also your boat will lose acceleration,,aka take longer to reach max speed and longer planing time..

Rpm range is 5200

never go 134 or 136 unless you need more than 36 pitch it will slow you down about 3 mph

When I went from a 1.5 and a 32 pitch prop...to a 1.34 and a 28 pitch prop...I picked up 3 mph, and the boat handled much better.

The larger pitched props have the blade surface of the prop more laid back (parralel to the water) which caused handling issues with my single engined v-hull.

The 26-30 pitch bravo props also tend to have lower slip numbers than their larger bretheren.

Going from a 1.50 to a 1.35 is 3" of pitch with the same model of prop. You could move 2"- 4" of pitch depending on if you'd like to increase or decrease rpms a little.

Thanks for your help with this I had it backwards and was thinking that since the prop would turn slower with a 1.35 ration that it was essentially geared down which I thought would require higher pitched prop not lower. My new drive also has a one inch shorter Imco lower section, I have both 28 and 30 pitch props so your answers saved me the purchase of another prop.
