I wish I could say this was from HP related issue but its not. I hit a tree stump and new right off it was hurt. Limped to the trailer and found i couldnt get out of forward gear and out of the water to see dog eared prop blade and 3 slightly tweaked. Once home, I removed the prop to find twisted splines on the prop shaft. Im wanting to get parts ordered ASAP for repair. Are there certain things that usually break in my situation or do I need to tear down first? What would keep me from getting out of forward gear? Whos got the best prices on the parts im gonna need? I already had a new prop on the way(lucked out on that one) but need to know an idea of what else it could need. Any help would be nice here. We have a boat vaca planned in 2 weeks so this needs attention. Thanks JRM

Without looking, it is hard to tell what happened internally. The cone could be stuck in gear?? If you ran it home, it doesnt sound like you actually broke any shafts or gears. What do the magnets look like? Any metal flakes or chunks indicates problems. I had motor lock up on me at 4800rpm and after getting it all together the next trip out the driven gear broke three teeth off it. I assumed it was from the sudden stop of the motor. So you hit something pretty hard, vacation in 2 weeks. Hard to tell without changing a lot of parts, just to make sure the vacation is without issues. If it were me, for the time crunch, I would look at buying another drive, and get this one looked at and use it as a spare.
It all depends on what took the stress, but twisted splines says it was a hard hit and parts failure could be in the future. Unless you put new gears in upper and lower, you still have shafts that may or may not be stressed. Hard to say without changing everything, and a new drive is probably cheaper.. Hope that helps. The time crunch thing makes you not want to take a chance???

Well, decided to sit this one out and let the pros do what they do. Its goin to the bravo shop. Talked to john a few times and my insurance company as well. I want reliability, not head aches later on. I just hope it goes quickly and smoothly.

Seems like your best option to enjoy the vacation. Good luck
