Bravo1 Cavitation Plate Mod
I'm making some modifications to my Bravo upper in order to accommodate a -3 lower. To get the prop clearance I had to chop off the rear snout of the drive just past the trim rams. I have acquired a Merc cavitation plate from a Bravo3 that I plan to fit and have welded in place.
My question is... How far back should/can the cavitation plate extend over the prop? I've already cut off a large piece and if I were to weld today, the cavitation plate would extend about 4-5" past the prop. Very similar to the length of the plate on a stock Bravo3. Would the length aid in planing and/or hurt performance once on top? Here is a link to the gallery with some pictures. click here |

i would close up the top as well, dont want air or water to cause any cavitation. looks great though!

It stays as it is. Have to feather it a bit to get on top but no real issues. Seems to work real well.

griswald, your doing one hell of a job, did you try it before and after? i bet that thing throws one hell of a roostertail without the plate.
|
I did, and there's really no difference before vs after but it will throw a bit of water in the air at cruise speed.
