Gimble #6

It seems i have broken the gimble on my #6 drive. Not sure how i did that. This is an older 6 built around 2000 what is the cost of the part approximately and how much labor is involved. Oh Boy. I thgt i made it through the season with a little skin left. this is a 36 foot skater with 900's built in 2000.

Thanks

If it is the gimble ring, the dealer cost from Mercury is about $2300, retail is over $3G's. The hard part is getting the old one off if it's that old or been run in salt a bunch. Some people choose to get a whole transom assembly (Cobra has them) and send them back yours for them to rebuild for a credit. Call Randy @ Cobra and see what he has...

Assuming I removed the drive and placed the broken gimbal on a bench. How many labor hours should I pay to convert one to the other? I assume I need a qualified mercury tech to do that part?

What is the best and the least expensive way to repair this?

mrdwp 11-15-2012 01:48 PM

Changing the Gimbal ring? Has anyone dont this?

37ol 11-15-2012 09:02 PM

If the pins at the pivot points come out without having to use heat( then you are repainting things ), it is about a 3-4 hour job if you have some skills. I have broken 2 over time and one came apart another I sent off to have the whole tramson assembly rebuilt and repainted because the pins would not come out and a little heat was required to remove them.

mrdwp 11-16-2012 08:55 AM

What did it cost you to have it done after you sent it out. The parts and the rebuild? Not the R & R

The gimbal was like $2500, the place that did it no longer services # 6 stuff. I think to have the transon assembly rebuilt and repainted including new gimbal ring was something like $4500. Colabella, TNT, Cobra, Guy in Havasu,( call Teague ) for Havasu #.

SFOcean 11-19-2012 01:17 AM

The guy in Havasu is Vern; he did a great job for me at a very reasonable price. http://westcoastdrives.com/
