Chris Craft 390 X Twin TRS Out drive Question

Short Story: Starboard TRS out drive was eating gears.

1. Removed starboard out drive.
2. Complete dis-assembly.
3. Total blue print rebuild of out drive, not just replacement of parts but, machining of case and cryogenic treatment of all transmission gears.
4. Re-installation of transmission.
5. Rebuilt transmission hits like a 20 pound sledgehammer.

Problem: When I retract the trim tabs above 35 knots the boat will list very hard to the starboard side, correct and then list to starboard again. It will do this repeatedly in rapid succession forcing speed to be reduced below 35 knots.

If the trim tabs are placed fully down the boat doesn't list. This obviously reduces the top end speed considerably though.

Air in hydraulics?

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

Do you have external hydraulic steering and a tie bar?

It could be steering or misalignment too.

Drives/props are counter rotating/opposing each other, correct? Have you checked to make sure your tabs are actually where you think they are in relation to the indicators, the boat, and each other. Perhaps the port tab is not fully retracted when you think it is?
