servicing bravo one drives

does anyone know what the cost is to remove bravo drives and service them ?I had the drives(2) removed the oil changed,a bunch of o rings and seals , and new mounting kits and reinstalled. No paint or zincs .Then got the bill.... I just want to know what the going rate is around the community.

Not sure what a mount kit is, but 6 bolts hold them on and there are only a couple orings/gaskets that fall right off in your hands.

It should take no more than an hour but I can appreciate that a shop might be tied up for 2!?!?

I am guessing from this post that you got a shockingly high bill??

I have pulled and reinstalled one in about 20 minutes one time when I got to the ramp and found out I had missed the shift cable clasp

yeah the labor was 6 hours? and the bill was high, my buddy told me it should be around 350 a drive here in NY which I could stomach but the bill seems high and this is from a guy that I know well and my wife has worked for doing his book keeping and taking people to court that dont pay their bill.Nice guy I think Im being robbed

Did he actually break down the drives to the internals? You mentioning a bunch of orings and seals makes me think there was more to it then just pulling the drives.

I agree that just pulling a bravo drive, inspecting gimbal bearing and alignment, and reinstalling is easy work. However if he found that shaft seals had to be replaced the bill can get expensive quick.

her is the parts list most of it is nickle and dime stuff the labor is high and some of the things I dont know what they are ..44166 tilt piston pin,62705 o ring(2) 97387 o ring (2)12708 seal(2) 816629 tab washer (2)830749 drain screw washer(4) hi pro gear lube (2) 861289A1 busching kit 41613 washer 16755A1 mounting kit(2) 86779A1 carrier assy and 6 hours labor
what is the tilt piston pin ? carrier assy ? shop material ?

Shop material will be things like zip ties, misc screws, loctite, etc. In this case it probably means RTV.

The tilt piston pin I'd have to assume to be the trim cylinder pin(s), may have been where the bushing kit(s) went as well. There are two oring seals between the helmet and unit so that adds up.

Retail on the gear oil id 13-15$/qt and you need three so there's $40ish.

Look up all your part numbers on www.mercruiserparts.com to see what they cost.

So the carrier assembly you listed is the one behind the input yoke. So they had that out. One of the o rings is the upper cap. They did do more than just r&r and service

lakematdude 03-31-2013 04:32 PM

With the part numbers listed, he opened up the upper units for resealing, so the time would be considered fair. If you had oil in the u joint bellows or hard shifting, etc, then most of the parts used were needed.

Having two tilt piston pins (44166) that are bad and need replacing seems unusual, retailing at $81.00 ea, could warrant questioning in my opinion.

having one pin needing replacing is questionable unless it was missing or bent
