Lower unit shift process and oil level in resevoir

Took delivery of 2000 Cobalt 232 with 290 hours (confirmed) 7.4 MPI with a Bravo 3-- Beautiful boat!

1. What is the process of putting it in gear -- do I ease it in ---or like our "old" 165 Hp Mercruiser - snap it into gear.

2. I had the engine gone thru by a Cobalt (dealer) mechanic and all the oil levels were recorded as ok - compressions values 170-175. However, this weekend looked at the reservoir it is pretty low - below the fill line - I was out on the boat maybe 15 minutes - NO HARD DRIVING or SPEED. There is no oil leaking anywhere that I can see.

Should I just fill this up with gear lube and watch - or is there something else that I could check.

In my old boat I would check the bottom plug in the lower unit and that was it- fill as necessary.

You should maybe add oil once and see if it stabilizes .If the drive had just been serviced the level in reservoir may need to be topped after a short while ..If it keeps going away take and have it checked. If you are just checking oil in drive .The bottom plug is the fill plug top plug is the level.

Just put in gear quickly and completely when shifting.
