Do you know the ratio of the gears? Have you got any of the steering cylinders or brackets.

Steering is in the pic. No idea on gear ratio. How do you tell?

Definitive way to tell the exact gearset is the tag, affixed to the drive just under the trim mounts on the left side of the drive. Generally in percentages. I have a "+13%" and a "0%" (1 to 1) set. Without that, the spin and count method works close enough. The cylinders are trim cylinders, not steering. One trim cylinder is missing the drive mount plate which ties the steering cylinder AND trim cylinder to one drive. (they made dual and single cylinder steering--the other bracket indicates this was originally single) One cylinder has the bracket (3 holes) that mounts to the top of the drive. I don't see any steering at all except the tie bar. Missing one cavitation plate. Looks to be first series drives. They changed around 1986-7(?) to what called a "teardrop" gimbel which is tall and the trim cylinders attach to it. Before stopping production, the last series was what was known as an "investment" drive, relating to the casting process. Thinner skegs and stantions, more hydrodynamic shape. very rare and bring the most money.
Most of my props are set up for the "+13%" gearset. If that's what you have, I'd like to talk to you about them. |
looks like one is a long shaft (desirable) with a spacer, the other one is short shaft. let me know what you find out on gear ratios. I've passed your info on here to a buddy who runs Kaamas as well.
