Bravo serial number location? (no stickers)
Trying to get some maintenance done on the boat and finally got around to the drives. On one of them I can just make out the serial but on the second one I can t find anything. The drive has the plastic sliders and the area in which the pin slides through for the trim cylinders is elongated (two position). I'm jut trying to figure out what year it is. Is there any place I can scratch away the paint to reveal a stamped code?
Secondly, there is a white sticker 1" by 2" with the writing partially missing that clearly says bravo drive assembly and a partial serial number (268791) and a bar code. |
I don't know if this will help but I wanted to verify the serial numbers - used boat - that was on the maintenance documents that I was provided. I contacted Cobalt and in a couple of days had all the information.

The only serial number I know of anywhere on a Bravo would be stamped on the original stickers. Why does the year make a difference????

More than likely the upper case or drive was replaced, hence no serial number. Or the decals were replaced?? Does the drive in question look like the other drive, exactly? If the boat is a 94 then the serial number on the visible one probably doesn't start with OM or later, indicating you have the old style, thin floored gears. If you must know, pull the top cap and look at the thrust bearing on top of the driven gear. If the needles in that bearing are .078" then it is old style. If they are .125" then the gears are newer style, thick floored gears.
But for regular maintenance, it isn't necessary to know what year it is, I would think. Hope that helps. Dick |
On some bravo sterndrives there was stamped numbers on casting below port side decall , under the paint .

Below should be the parts catalog for that serial number when needed, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selec..._nbr=891748001 |
