surface drive identification
I have 2 surface drives here ,but so far nobody can,t tell me what brand they are .. they are made from aluminium ,have replaceble skegs ( they can be taken of by sliding them backwards off a locking rail) the powertrim cilinders are stainless steel ,steering is done from inside the boat by a steering arm .
The propshafts are 1 1/4 inch , the props that came with the drives are : eliche radice 485x600 mm 18,5x25,5 inch. They seem to be European made ,they have all metric bolts . there is an electrical wire going into the housing ,I could not see what its function is ,other than I thought it was for oil temp ... or drive position ... Prop shaft nut is brass ,and has a hex screw to lock the nut on the propshaft ( seems the only part that I could recognice at SDS,s website ) Its not a socket ball style like Arneson ,but it has hinge pins and steering pins . transom housing has a large O ring around for water sealing ,there are also hoses coming from the transom house that run to a reservoir . I will try to find somebody that can post pics from the drives , as I can,t post here . Thx A.J |

Thanks for posting the pics ! Anybody know what brand ?

Judging by the pallet jack they look big like ASD8/10's. Did they come off the Hustler in that gallery? Interesting, never seen those before . . . .
|
The drives did not come off the Hustler , not sure what boat they came ... I measured the length ,just 2 inches shorter total lenght as my ASD8,s inline drives .
|
They are not Arnesons.
|
Possibly MSA.... Like those tiller arms!
|
I googled surface drives at images ,and have seen a lot drives ,but none of them were alike .... MSA have all extrnal steering ,they do have a hing pin /steering pin system ,but its totally different .
|
No, it is not MSA, but it look like this http://www.dbdmarine.com/

That DBD drive has a socket ball ,and as far as I can see ,it contains no oil for lubrication ,just dry U joints or homokinetic system.
The drives I have have a large capacity housing that mounts to the transom that contains oil ,where the U joints are turning into, the hoses that come from the housing go to a reservoir that stores the oil just like a Arneson ASD8 inline units do. The powertrim pumps that came with the drive are : Made in Hungary , they kinda look like OMC ,s inboard pumps... |
