Replacing transom seal

I am replacing the transom seal, the gasket between the drive and the transom, and was wondering if any kind of sealant is needed or do you just put the new gasket in and bolt it down? It is a number three speedmaster, the old seal looks kinda like cork.
Thanks

Anyone...........Also how do you get the transom assembly off the transom. I have everything unbolted and off, also all hoses are off. I can not get it to budge, any ideas?

Ayuh,.... Probably glued on by a PO,... Push/ Pull Harder,...

Ya only need a few drops of glue to hold the gasket "In-place" while ya slide the assembly back on,...

Too much glue, 'n yer in the position yer in now, it won't come Off,...

Ok getting ready to put the housing back on with the new seal, is any kind of sealant needed between the housing and seal and between the seal and transom to make sure it does not leak? Form the looks of the drive housing and the gasket mine was leaking around the bottom. How do you make sure it does not happen again?

Ayuh,.... If the wood ain't rotten, ya don't need glue,...

If the transom IS rotten, there ain't no amount of glue that's gonna help,...
