Arneson Bravo conversion on Formula 400SS

Just curious if anyone has done this and if so what were the results? Seems like a good candidate, I've considered this boat and just seem to think with 500 efi's or even 525's that would be a lot of stress on a Bravo3.

There would not be any problems with your boat that I can see. You can even up the power if you desired.

Then sell the boat to me in a couple years

Do you know of any that have been done or similar hulls to get an idea of performance gain potential? Would there be any issue with low end power getting going which I assume is the reason they went with Bravo3's originally. To me the 400ss is a great compromise boat between speed and comfort but would be even better with a rooster tail. If I did one this way I don't know that I'd be ready to sell for quite awhile.

Thanks

They installed bravo 3 drives because mercury has a monopoly and sell engines and drives as a package.

There is a 47 wellcraft Excalibur in The classifieds that runs great with the asd7m bravo conversion.

There also is a formula 40ss rigged with ilmor 725 and Indy drives that are spinning surface drive "offshore style" propellers with success.

I'm sure you would be one happy boat owner with arnesons!

The bottom end would not be a problem, it's a matter of propping and gearing... Getting up should not be an issue.

Any idea what you'd reccomend for gearing and props with assuming the boat was making 550 - 650hp? One of the ones I'm looking at has 500efi's and would probably look at putting ateco kits on them. I'd think that would make for a fun ride.

Ratio would be our 1.56:1 propellers would depend upon the speed desired and the weight of the boat.
