Odd Sound on Bravo...Video
 

Hey guys,

Had my 454 rebuilt and installed this winter (I did the install..I aligned it and bolted the drive up).

I have 4-6 hours on the install and I am hearing something that I can't pin point. I have a rubbing noise coming from the drive /shaft area. Tilt or turning doesnt change it. It gets faster with RPM).

Boat is driving fine and it shifts ok. The noise also doesn't change when it foward, reverse or neutral.

The drive sat for 9 months covered while I relocated states. I went to get the drive and of course the cover was off, which exposed the u-joints to rain and such.

I didn't change the fluid because I just changed it before I removed the drive last year (should have changed it). Either way..installed the drive and kept adding fluid as the drive was taking a little from the bottle. Drive stopped taking it and the bottle now stays filled. I plan on changing drive oil this weekend, but curious to this sound.

The engine drowns it out as I go faster (I have yet to go over 3k rpm as I break in the engine)

Not hearing anything llike you describe.

Here's a thought---I don't know if your drives are trimmed up to "trailer mode" by looking at your video, but it might be a good idea to put your drive/s in more of a level/neutral position while starting/running the engine. Starting/running an engine when the drive is trimmed up is not usually good on the u-joints and if I remember correctly, would make an unusual noise that way as the u-joint is being stressed at that angle. Anytime I would start my engines, while on the trailer or while at the launch, I would always make sure my drives were level, i.e. in somewhat more of a neutral position. Anyway, give it a try and see if it works.

Check if your lower shift cable is rubbing on the eng/drive coupler.
