Alpha One lower impeller housing
So I FINALLY got around to tearing into my lower unit. I ended up with a melted impeller housing, both upper and lower. It was a breeze to tear apart, thanks to OSO members......but I'm having a hell of a time getting the lower housing to seat in the bore. I stuck the housing in the freezer and will start fresh in the morning. There were a ton of 'boat fixin' words flying!!!!
Any suggestions would be great!!! |
Anybody??
Please?? |
Are you saying about the lower base in the complete impeller kit ? if so you have to use the proper O-ring around the sealing base bottom. it is a tight press fit down into the the drives bore.
|
Yes, it's being a PITA!!!

So I figured it out....I have an EARLY Alpha one lower housing on a later upper. The lower impeller housing on the early model is .010 smaller than the later. The marina sold me the later style. Now I have the correct part and all is well.
Adding some grey to my scalp the last couple days!! |
you must have an older drive than 1988. if I recall the base is the same size 1985 or 1986 and up till the alpha one gen II came about in 1991.
I looked it up the lower base is the same from 1985 to 1990 so I was almost spot on with what I said. 1985 or 1986 thru. |
Well this made my parts selection a royal PITA!!
And ruined three days of running all over hells half acre!! |
all I can say it is important to know exactly what you have and all OEM serial #'s so the person can sell the correct parts for your apps. That's why engine and drive serial #'s are important for buying parts and installs. Also I could have tossed you the right impeller kit as we went by in the Buffalo PR. You were not in an 17ft aluminum fisher boat - were you ?

I was in the 20ft Subnbird....droolig over all your boats!!!!
Thank god I had swim trunks on....no mess!!! |
