trs to Konrads - 10 meter Fountain
Finding myself at a cross-road.... 25 year old boat with original trs set up, wanting to keep the boat and enjoy it for many more years. Had an idea to start converting to the Konrad drives, starting with the inner transom plate and upper gimbal housing. Running the perfectly fine "original" trs lowers until next year. (Save up a little money, those things must be made out of moon dust or something very rare ) ;)
Would there be any drawbacks to doing this, besides the reliability of Konrads.... |
Why does that appeal to you more than putting a used TRS on for now and start acquiring parts for the Konrad conversion? If I was going to do the conversion, I would wait until I have everything and then do the swap, not do it halfway.
Man do I wish Konrad made a bolt on drive for the TRS gimbal, that would make life so much easier. |
Pretty sure that they do.

I was always under the impression you had to change the inner and outer transom assemblies. There was no modification of the hull required, but you still needed to change the transom assemblies. I could be wrong, I never researched it that hard.

Never mind the labor or the conversion,The price for the drives will blow you away !!!!! Why don't you just buy some used TRS drives complete and store them away until you need them.. Good luck .

The price is high. Hell i think all drive prices are high. I just bought a MACK 10 speed transmission at work for our tri-axle dump truck and it was about 4500 bucks. So how the hell is a drive so expensive?!?!
Anyway sccop up some used TRS's and put them on the shelf. Use as needed. That should keep you goin until you can buy some Konrads! |

i can't find out how much they are... i thought i heard like 6-7k for a set while i was down in LOTO.. not sure could be totally wrong... |
:Might be wrong but seem to remember the drives to replace the TRS's are 13 to 20 thousand dollars each and that does not include the tie-bar
Jim Only one way to find out --------Call them Monday morning !! Checked Teague's web site and Imco's and merc xr's are 9300.00 for the upper and 5400.00 for the lower so if Konrad is any where close to them your in the ballpark |
if the numbers are that large, possibly look at the arneosns as they will give you speed and realibility over the suggestions so far

Konrad's 1/2 conversion, (Drive leg only) bolts directly to the TRS transom assembly (gimbal) retails for $9995.
Konrad full conversion, drive leg and complele transom assembly, including trim rams retails for $11,995. TRS full (new transom assembly) conversions retain the existing TRS inner transom plate. If interested in learning more, shoot me an email at [email protected] I'll be glad to forward you the installation manual. Kurt |
