bravo std. to imco on 27 daytona

Hey guys...with the end of my season right around the corner its time to start thinking of mods for the winter.....I have a 27 daytona icc closed bow with a 496ho with cmi headers on it and a bravo x drive...all stock..the boat on gps runs 76 on the rev limiter with a bravo 1 26 and 78 with a labbed 28 bravo 1.(I know boring)
Im looking into a 2" shorty imco lower for a higher top speed....my propshaft right now is 2-3/4"-3" below the keel of the sponsons...does anyone have experience with this set up? Ive talked to a couple of people including eliminator and they say it my work or it my hurt me...eliminator says with the numbers im running, the propshaft height seems pretty close where it needs to be, but it may work, they said to try it, but.....its alot of $ to gamble with.....or should i just buy a imco std. Lower for better flow and leave the propshaft height alone....I would love everyones opinion......

I do have a hp525 im building to 580-600hp...that will be going in the boat this winter or next....

Go with a 2" shorty and if needed space it down . 1" below the sponsons should be fine

I have a 2" short imco on a 25' eliminator but I also have an extension box. With that it put my prop shaft even with my sponsons . I picked up about 4 to 5 mph over the stock bravo. No problems getting on plane.

Fbc25el, r u running a 4 blade or 5?

Eliminator said the extension box would be a plus...

Bravo 1 4 blade 28p

I also have a 25 with a box. I am 1" below the sponsons now out on the box. I am going to try a 2" shorty on it soon

Search the forums! I wouldn't swear to this but did a lot of research on 25 daytonas before I bought an htm ss24 and pretty sure that at least on a 25 a -2 imco made a real difference. Seems people were picking up about 5mph with no bad side effects. IMO X dem seems a little deep. But yours is a 27, just my two cents. Btw I only bought the htm cause it had so much room in the boat. Told my wife it would be a great lake boat for us and the kids :argue:

Please don't forget to keep an eye on the water pressure coming into the boat. I've been down that road before from a bravo 1 to imco shorty on another boat water pressure will go up. I blew hoses off in a couple different places, luckily didn't blow a head gasket. Live and learn! Good luck!

I have a 26 Daytona ( same hull as a 27 ) I bought it without an engine or drive. I took one of the engines and drives out of my other boat. 509 - 650 HP and an IMCO -2 shorty. The boat came up on plane without any problems with the stock Bravo 28 - 4 blade.
Best speed with this combo was 88 MPH. Last winter I had a -3 IMCO and Bravo X drive upper built. My prop shaft height was even with the bottom of the lowest part of the hull with the -2 shorty.
With the -3 I had to do some modifications to make it work but it does - I am now running 93 on the same prop.
