Bravo 1 gimbal replacement stock or ss?
Hey guys it's been a while since I have posted anything. I just had a question. While my motor is out I need to do the gimble ring. Should I go with the stock aluminum or should I try and get a stainless one? I was told by a mechanic it was horribly worn. I don't know if i should bring it to a mechanic to have it changed or is it easy enough to do? Do you need any special tools to do it?

JR Marine has a video on their website detailing the complete procedure.

If you're engine is out out now is the time to changeout worn pins . should be pretty straight forward.
|
Send it to JR marine, he will send you a re-machined one. They are great to deal with. He also has upgraded parts, and everything you need to do the work.

Can I take the inner transom plate out and take the gimble ring off that way? The motor is out so it would be easy to get to.

You don't need to take off the inner transom plate. From the engine compartment you need to loosen the bolt that tightens the steering arm onto the steering pin. The rest (hinge pins, lower pin) is done from outside the boat. If the steering arm has any play on the steering pin, it will need to be replaced too.

Go aluminum, the SS ones have fit problems.

I was just curious about taking the inner transom plate off so I don't have to put a hole and a plate on the outer plate to get the gimble ring out. Pismo, I heard there was some fit problems and I know for some of them you need external steering.

people drill the external holes because otherwise you have to take out the the engine. Your engine is already out and you can reach the steering arm bolt from inside the boat

Since the engine is out ,do yourself a favor and pull out the transom assembly for the repair. The only reason I can see for doing the cobbling fix (JR) is for someone without the ability to remove engine .Once the engine is out if transom has good cut ,it can be done without removing transom assembly .....But why not install new transom seal while you are this far.....meaning, pull the assembly ..Do it once do it right ....M.O.

The JR Marine stuff is nice. Also makes it nice to be able to check for maintenance.
