Bravo 1 gear lube in bilge
Bravo 1 gear lube in bilge.
Pulled my Out drive and found Gear oil in bellows. I suspect that the yoke seal has failed but is there anything I should be looking for that may had caused this to happen or is this a common occurrence. Any help would be appreciated. |
I had to replace mine last year. There was some scoring on where the seal rides. I reused it, holding up fine after cleaning it up with some emery cloth..

Wow, was about to post a similar question, then saw this one. I have the same problem on stb side. Dont know if it is yoke seal. My question was going to be, I fill both my gear lube bottles to the full line. Go out once or twice, both drop to just above low line on bottle. no lube in port side of bilge. Question was, might my setup have its sweet spot if you will relative to lube level, and anything over that it spits out? Monitor doesnt sound either.
Not leaking from bottle, down the hose. Cant see if leaking from plastic elbow that goes into transom. Must I have the drive pulled to assess? Drives were pulled and alignment done end of season, Aug 2014, no signs of fluid in bellows, etc. Thanks. |

To find a leak, you could rig up a regulator and put 2lbs of air into the oil fill at the bottom of the drive,if a seal is leaking,it will show real quick. It can also leak betw the cases, that will most likely just show a pressure drop after time.
