Just replaced upper and lower gears in my starboard XR drive, would have been your first XR customer. Scratch that... will be a customer next year when the stock gears fail again.

What would be the rough cost on reverse engineering and making a few gears. I would possibly be interested in getting some pinion gears done for a Volvo drive

Still working on it. Sent off some stock gears to find out exactly what they are made from. I want to make sure they aren't already something good.. Which I doubt.

I'm going to guess 4340, or possibly 8620.

I'm picking up a 35' cigarette with TRS drives on it next week. The drives are my only concern on the boat as far as longevity goes. I would be interested in better lowers. It's running a staggered set up. Has anyone ever heard of running surface drives on a boat with staggered motors? Or am I limited to certain applications that I can run?

I also have another boat that has XR's on it. And they are definitely the weak link since I have 900's as power. So lowers for the XR??? Heck Yes!
