Merctrans 2. Fluid change question

What's the best way to get the oil out of the box. There is a couple plugs on the side of the transmission, but real estate is pretty scarce getting to them. I had a bellows fill it up and I need to do a couple changes to get it cleaned up.

Thanks in advance.

I usually pull the cooler out to get it to drain completely. Pulling one of the plugs won't drain it 100%. You sure it got in there from water in the bellows? The seal in the rear of the trans should keep it out. Seen them fill with water from the cooler splitting due to them freezing from not draining them over winter.

Ya, you can see the hole in the spongy bellows. You can also see a line of how high the water was pushing against the back side of the trans.

My boat sit low.

Now to pull the cooler, do I need a special gasket or o-ring? Or, does it come apart and back together pretty easily?

Just remove the two cooler lines and the four bolts there and slide it out. Comes apart easy. It has a simple paper gasket. If you damage it you can easily make a new one yourself.

Just to be sure make sure to pressure test the cooler.

Ok sounds good I'll do that tomorrow morning. Afternoons suck.

Thanks for the help

Pulled the cooler today, all the water and what resembles trans fluid came out. Brake cleaned the cooler and pressure tested it.

Cooler good to go.
Gasket lived.

Sacrificed a cooler bolt and nut driver to the bilge. Lol

Now the hard part is getting the dropped tool and bolt out. Whoever thought big blocks in a 28ss were a good idea wasn't wrenching on them. Lol

Minimal friction material in the fluid too. Ran my fingers around in the bottom of the trans to check for metal flake.

Life is good. Thus far......
