volvo penta duo prop removal

first what special tools are needed to remove prop nut or any good tricks [ss props with no kind of nose cone .] never messed with these a friends newley purchased boat with twin 7.4's one set of props rotates smooth the other side grinds when rotated. the two props are physically grinding together and you can see there is no clerance between them. as the good side has a noticeable space between the to props. is there a shim spacer or somekind of bushing between them.

The outer prop can be removed with a big socket. The inner prop needs a special tool to take it off. I sell it brand new 49 dollars shipped to your door.

And a big tip is to clock the props a certain way upon reinstalling them. I have some pics up here how to do it. I will have to find the link and post it.

odds are that one of the props has slipped on the hub and moved to the other. I have had to have a couple sets redone because of this.

I am interested in the "clocking" procedure. I have heard of it but thought that the props just met at certain points during a revolution. Please post. Thanks, David

the prop would need to go to a prop shop to be rehubbed. not a big deal. the clocking, if I remember correctly, is to insure that the prop blades do not pass each other at the top under the cavitation plate. BUP should be able to confirm this.

Sorry I have been very busy as of late.

Post # 31 is your twin prop - timed / clocked props picture and if you scroll down you will see twin props NOT clocked / timed. the whole thread might be a good read for whomever as some good Volvo info posted. I have been installing twin props like in post 31 for at least 20 years and never had a negative comment from the end user.

A lot of people will ask me afterwards as I do not tell them nothing about it, they will ask - what did you do to my boat as it seems to run better. Comments from the end user are usually it turns better or it seem faster or handles better and so on.

click on link below as Artie posted my pics because I do not know how to.

there is other pics in the thread as well.
