just wanted to make sure repair shop is being honest, they say"may" have to pull engine |
I'd find another repair shop, I think there's four maybe 6 nuts holding that drive on to the gimble, it shouldn't take a true marine tech more than a few minutes to remove that drive, unless you have external steering,

no external steering, very limited certified repair shops in this area
thanks again for your reply |
What others have said 6 nuts well 8 if you count the trim rams, and the drive is off. They may have said "maybe" because they cant tell till the drive is out what shape the drive hub is in.
What symptoms where you having that makes you think "glazed clutches" |

Ok that could indiacted it has a spun drive hub and the motor needs to be removed to fix that.
Same forward and reverse? or only in one direction. I assume you check the prop hub to make sure its still good? |

If I had to guess your drive hub is spun or weak, usally you can idle or a little above idle when they are out but anything more then that its like being in netrual.
Did you happen to smell any burnt rubber when this was happening? |
