Bravo 1 full service
 

Hey everyone! Just bought my first boat about a week ago. 1988 formula 242. 454/bravo 1. The previous owner said he had basic maintenance done to the drive last year but with no proof. Anyways so I'm looking at doing the maintenance myself on it for peace of mind but would like to know what a full service includes on a bravo 1? I'm confident I can do it myself but can anyone recommend a good service manual just incase I get stuck on something? Also I know I'll need some specialty tools if anyone can let me know what ones so I can get them ordered. Thank you all very much!

Basic maintenance would be removing the drive to check engine alignment with a alignment bar. Make sure there is no water in the u-joint bellows, check and grease u-joints, grease check gimbal bearing. Check and or replace plastic wear pads on drive. Check replace anodes on drive. Grease engine coupler. change gear lube. Re torque gimbal ring clamping screws. Pressure test drive isn't a bad idea. I might have missed a few other odds and ends to check or look at.

If you're planning on tearing down your actual drive, don't! It's a slippery slope, before you know it you will have spent several thousands of dollars in tools. One thing leads to another and yet another. And no, you can't do it with a few tools, it's all or nothing!
