Either ratio will work, in theory one would think 1.36 with X prop would work out the same as a 1.50 with Y prop but for some reason there's a black art behind gear ratios that takes trial and error.

I would go with the 1.50.

The SCX is a great drive especially spinning bravo and maximus style props. I do not like the SCX-4. If you want to spin offshore style props go with the Arneson, X-Power, or #6.

There's NO WAY I would run over 600HP through a B-Max, SC, or XR lower of any sort. They all use JUNK XR gears. The slight speed lose is worth the reliability of the SCX lower.

If you run rough water also consider a MDC drive gaurdian.

Just remember the only drives actually rated to handle 1000hp are Mercury #6, M8, X-Power, Twin Disc Arneson ASD8.

Sounds like a sweet boat and engine post pics!

Yeah, a buddy of mine broke a lower gear tooth on one of his 25 hour SCX-4's and he's only running 850 hp...

Yeah large heavy aggressive offshore style cleavers that are surfaced put a LOT of stress on the SCX-4.........
