I buy this cheaper than the Merc Hi-Po. Magnets are much cleaner, doesn't gel in the bottom of the reservoir, and doesn't darken up like the Merc does.

I also use it every 20 hours or after a hard run. comes out very clean.

I used Amsoil Severe Gear. 175 hours and gears pitted. Intervals at 20 hours.

Been using NEO since.

525 XR boat.

Pitting can come from improper breakin from the get go when new and lack of a couple hour gear oil change. Also a from of corrosion when the gears were manufactured that can not be seen by the naked eye. And yes of course gear oils can pay into the pitting process of the gears as well.

I say use what merc says . Like Oil filters for instance. Too many people sway to save a buck. If you save a buck, it's only about 20 feet of distance traveled in a boat like we have. But i always try to save money on sh!t like carpet,, lol I think the dark color in the fluid is clutch material. One of mine does it, the other does not.
