REM finishing XR gears?

Has anyone experimented with REM finishing XR gearsets? Would this increase life? Will they hold gear oil on the faces of the gear with a rem finish?

Articfriends has a alot of experience on this.

Its interesting stuff...wonder how combining this with cryogenic treatments would make them?

REM and Cryo'd lower unit gears on my IMCO drives (SCX uppers/SC Lowers). 800 HP each, last tear down on lowers all looked new. 4 years use, approximately 120hrs.
Would definitely recommend if rebuilding using XR gears.

I know what cryogenic is but what is REM?

thanks

It's basically a micro finishing of the metal surface, it takes out imperfections. Ultimately it reduces surface friction, lowering operating temperatures and wear. Generally it reduces stresses on the piece. Combine it with the benefits of cryogenics and you can significantly extend the service life of the gears.

Got it, thanks! Similar to micro polishing a crank shaft.

I've had a few set cryo treated....I've done some chants and incantations and sprinkled
Them with magic dust while I was assembling them and had about the same results as the cryo.
