Bravo 1X Shifting Clunk Normal?

Replaced my failed Bravo 1 upper with a reman Bravo1X. When I shift into forward or reverse, the shift is quite firm, with a audible clunk. With the old upper, the shift was smooth with a slight delay before the prop starting spinning fast enough to start propelling the boat.
I'm running an Imco -2" shorty with a 1 1/4" prop shaft and a Merc solid hub kit.
Is what I'm feeling/hearing normal?

I've had a few Bravo drives over the years and some bang into gear and some shift smooth as silk. My current drive bangs like a cheap ho. Has from day one regardless of shift cable adjustments. Still bangs 400+ hours later even after a full rebuild including new cone clutch. You can't adjust it out of it. It is what it is.

My Bravo's always had that clunk.
When I got boat with trs's, I couldn't believe how smooth it was going in & out of gear compared to Bravo's.

props can have an effect also, when I have the maximus on the boat clunks like a m'fer with the bravos or eco enertias no clunk.

Two different animals.
TRS drives are controlled by a transmission, hydraulic and smooth as silk.
A Bravo is a version of a crash box, the cone clutch design takes the edge off the shift, it can only do so much. The newer swept back design does shift better due to some changes.

When they quit banging and lag is when you need to worry
