Help!! Seized Gimbal Bearing Can't get out!

Hello,

This thing is killing me. It's an Alpha One Gen II. I have tried almost everything. First I tried a 10lb slide hammer for a good long while and it won't budge. I bought the expensive Gimbal Bearing puller with the plate that goes over the 4 studs on Bell Housing and still won't budge.
I have soaked the thing for weeks in penetrating oil and nothing. How come when I use the puller not the slide hammer... the bell housing wants to rotate down as I tighten the nut and put pressure on it? I'm scared it's going to tweak the gimbal ring or something. I mean I have put alot of pressure on this thing and it won't budge.

It don't look corroded, however it is the original bearing and the boat is 18yrs old! Please help. I have read all the posts on the forums and watched all the videos.

The bearing might have cocked a tad and is biting into the housing. Take something and drive the bearing back in flush, then look around the outer edge and see if there is a groove being made in the housing

Ayuh,..... Good idea AD,.... beatin' it back in, might also help the pen-oil distribute better too,....

I had to buy a gimble bearing puller to get it to lock onto the bearing properly, when that didn't get it out as designed (ugh) I welded a longer steel rod on the end with a steel plate welded on the top, got a BFH and hammered that @#$% out of there! Now there is much debate about this, but I put mine back in with the slots turned out (like they used to be) so next time I could punch the bearing sideways and wiggle it out of the aluminum outer race without having to pull the whole thing again.

Im such instances, I am prone to recommend the liberal use if high explosives. They have never failed me in getting a stuck part unstuck.
