bravo one oil passage question

I have a 1988 bravo one upper with out the oil passage. Over the winter I picked up a new used lower that has the oil passage. I did not know this was an issue until I went to put it all back together. Can I block this passage off to make things work or should I start looking for a new upper that has the passage. If I can block it off what would be the best way to do so?

Thanks for your help guys!

The oil res in the boat, with a hose to the drive, is only to the upper unit,.....
