Bravo one STUPID question about a seal!!!!
Ok first of all this is my first bravo. I bought a 1996 crownline with a 454 mag mp. Took the outdrive off and had it resealed. The guy gave me two seals to install the drive. One around the shifterand the other around the water jacket. On a alpha, to keep water out the is a big round seal that goes around the bearing tube on the outside of the housing where you put a spanner nut wrench. I feel bravos don't need this but how does it keep from letting water get to the joints? How does it not leak past the mating point right into the ujoint bellows? I think I know but I'm hoping someone can answer this and prove my theory.
As a precaution I'm going to put some permatex around the mating surface unless someone has a good reason not to? |
Bravo's use O-rings around the 3 spots
Oil lube, drive shaft and water |
Ok yep i forgot about that seal but still doesn't answer my question.

the bellows protudes further toward the drive and when tight the same surface that the big o-ring on the alpha seals to seals against the rubber of the bellows.

Great answer. So the end of the bellow mates up to the cylindrical part of the outdrive right? That's what I was thinking but I wanted to make sure.
now should I put any bellows adhesive between them? What about silicon on the housing as a extra precaution? |
The snout of the drive pushes against the bellow sleeve, it compresses the lip on the bellow to produce the seal |
