300 hrs?? Why would they build them for diesels if they’re weaker than the regular X uppers? Any idea why the drive running in reverse is hotter? I switched sides and the port side is still hotter than stb.

what sticker works best? I’ll order some but am not sure what temp range to get. Thanks

Possible they were set up incorrectly (lash or bearing preload too tight) and that is causing the extra heat?

this, seen it a few times,,pinion nut could have moved.I'd be taking the upper apart.

I’ve often wondered about Mercury’s marketing, I’ll just chalk it up to that they’re in the parts selling business....I wouldn’t say they’re weaker, they just have a shorter life span, if you’re not shearing teeth off of the helical gears, you’re probably better off with those.... the l/h rotation drive uses the top gear for forward, the thrust bearing are in the top cap, they don’t benefit from behind being submerged in oil and having the cooling water passage on the bottom l/h side of the case to help dissapate the heat
