Propshaft broken
Hi all,
Did anyone suceed to brake the proshaft on a Bravo 1 ?? on my Donzi 33 (2x502MPi with Merlin heads; props Mercuiser 4blades 48-831913 & 14 Pitch 26) just had a big noise and that was it.. prop and piece of the shaft gone in the deep.... While accelerating the starboard engine stalled I guess too much torque was put on only one prop the shaft did not survive.... any recomendation did anyone has gone throught the same? 1- just change the Propshaft and check all gears in the drive 2- or go for a SEI lower unit 3- or try to save some $ and go for used lower unit? thank you in advise woudll help I. |
I broke a propshaft on a Bravo XZ getting on plane on a big heavy Sonic 386 with ITS. I was lucky and did not loose my propeller. I would recommend going through the whole outdrive.

In my opinion would not go with sei.drive if your lower gears are good do 1 1/4 shaft upgrade. more forgiving and you won't loose prop.

^^^ Convert to 1.25 easy to do
|
Thank you for your advises
i was always wonder if i should go 1.25" but somehow I rather brake the propshaft than the main gear. Not sure if my logic is valid but I see the propshaft as "fuse" Replacing a propshaft even with a prop is 100s of $ whereas replacing main gear or drive as whole is 1000s of $. In Fqct I know the answer: I have to be patient and get slowly on plane without putting too much torque on drives and props.....I guess that is the cheapest and most reasonable option !! BUT.... If we were reasonable we would not be here with these kind of boats.... Enjoy |
You probably hit something or jammed something between the prop and the cavitation plate ( that stalled your engine )
I surface my prop so fatigue is what would be the cause of my failure. I have the 1 1/4 prop shaft. |
Yes ... don t go WOT on one engine! And certainly not while pulling the baby out,.. it happened in a second |
