Question Bravo XR hard to get out of forward gear

One of my Bravo XR's is hard to get out of forward gear after running hard or when just docking. I have zero effort controls and if I pull pretty hard on the lever, it will snap out of gear. There are no cable bind or adjustment issues. I removed the shift mechanisms out of both drives and nothing looks warn and all moved freely. The cone clutch engages up and down properly. The high/low cam on the bronze ring on the drive gears looks fine...I thought this might be the problem since there is no pulsating felt through the shifter while trying to pull out of gear. The problem had gradually gotten worse over the last two seasons. Thanks in advance for your help...Ed

I would think its the upper shaft and sliding clutch. If they get worn can start hanging.
