bravo X3 upper
Working on a Bravo x3, serial number OW925825.
Struggling with the upper gear set. I installed new * tower needle bearings and race - both top and bottom. * new shims and the large diameter thrust bearings - top and bottom. The shims are .064 top and bottom - same as the orginals * new bearings inside the clutch * new springs inside the clutch * new bearings on the pinion. Problem - when I tighten the pinion into the gear set, it gets so tight I can hardly turn it and I don't have the top cap on yet. What am I doing wrong? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Do you have the shim on the inner pinion bearing race( that sets the pinion depth)? |
JaayTeee,
I do now.... that is exactly what I found I did not have. The shim was stuck to the original bearing and I thought it was part of it - after close inspection, I discovered that there was indeed a shim stuck to it. I remove it, placed it onto the new bearing and bingo. Smooth as silk. Thank you for your input! Kind regards, Woodchop |
