Strength of Straightback vs Sweptback
 
Im going to have my XR's freshened before they throw a tooth. I Spoke to a couple people about straightback vs sweptback and the general consensus was the straghtback case is stronger. Anybody seeing this kind of feedback on straight vs sweptback?

When I blew one of my XZ's last season, I started looking at all options. The information that I found in multiple places was that the 2006-present swept-backs are stronger, more rigid cases. Less likely to deform under load compared to the older straight-backs. Newer swept-back XR's also have a steel bearing tower in the reinforced drive top cap. BAM's website references that too on the "Mercruiser Bravo Sterndrives" page, it has a great comparison of various Bravos.

I've fixed both styles, I don’t see anything different between them in the area that would matter.....once you have the back covers off of each of them they really don’t look that different. Some people like the regular Bravo case over the X case due to the smaller pinion bearings used, there’s more material in the snout, which gets blown out of a X case when a tooth breaks off
