I have a Gaffrig setup on mine. Just a sending unit that screws into the top lube hole in the drive and a gauge. Works great

What I hear is that when water splashes on the temp sender in the vent hole plug externally the temp reading is off by a lot. I have not confirmed this myself but have heard it more than once. Also you still need to drill a hole in the transom to run all the wiring up to the dash then seal all that well. And then hook it up and however mount the gauge .

Someone needs to come out with a tire psi monitor deal that instead monitors lube temp and drive trim. No wires or etc. Good for close to 10 years.

That makes a whole lot of sense!

Several tire psi sensors also monitor temp, so, the electronics are small enough and the not needing to replace batteries are fantastic.

I don’t get it... So you get a temp guage and let’s assume it’s accurate. What are you gonna do, come off plane in the middle of the ocean if it over temps so it can cool down? I don’t get it?

better off hanging your head over the edge and hitting it with a heat gun. No offense sounds like a novelty item. Not a practical item.

and what’s an acceptable number? Does anyone have data? If not, not sure what you do with the reading.

The biggest advantage I see is you get a baseline temp. If you notice temps getting hotter than what is normal, then you could prevent having a complete failure.

If you really want it, you could go all out and install cooling lines. Mr gadgets plumbed a cooling system on mine 7 years ago. Then the temp sender is inside the boat. That is good for a 40-50 degree difference in drive temps when run thru a cooler inside the boat.
