Sportmaster bearing carrier replacement

Hi All,
I bought 2 billet bearing carriers to replace the stock ones in my sportmaster lowers.
I had a problem with a flo-torq hub braking and the prop gummed up the end of the stock one all the way to the first seal.
Question is can I just pull the stock carriers. swap the bearings and add new seals to the billet carriers.
And then just put them in the drive?
Or does the propshaft and gears have to be re-shimmed?
Is there a torque spec on the ring nut holding the carrier in?
Thanks

You,will need a new load ring. You should not have to reshim anything.

Correct however the bearing pre-load will have to be set with the new load ring. Lower unit has to be off the upper.

Another way that I admit to using in a pinch is carefully mark the position of the retainer nut and re-use the old load ring and when assembling. Tighten to the mark you made then a little additional. Enough so the next available locking tab can be used.

I don't like the idea of swapping the old parts however.

the upper and lower need to be split, then there is a clamp plate to put preload back on the down shaft bearing.... new seal's ,O-rings, new crush ring, and set the rolling pre-load(that is your nut "torque spec" keep going tighter till rolling preload is there and stop) and then the tab washer holds the nut in place... go slow! make it to tight and you will get to start over with a new crush ring...
